Gala Orba, B.S.

B.S., DePaul University

Secondary Mathematics Teaching Licensure, University of Colorado, Boulder

Gala fell in love with the deterministic nature of mathematics in high school and received her Bachelor of Science from DePaul University in 2009. She completed CU Boulder’s Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure Program for Secondary Mathematics in 2013. After student teaching at Casey Middle School she worked as long-term substitute at Boulder High School. She also worked as an Academic Coach for Leading Learners, LLC. During the 2015-16 school year she taught calculus at the Watershed School. This past summer Gala was asked back for her fourth year instructing math in the Pre-Collegiate Development Program on CU’s campus.

Gala is excited to lead the math department at TGS and share her appreciation and understanding of mathematics with TGS students. Gala has profound respect for mathematics. As Edward Frenkel said, “Mathematics directs the flow of the universe, lurks behinds its shapes and curves and holds the reigns of everything from tiny atoms to the biggest stars.”

Outside of school, Gala enjoys performing acrobatic and circus arts. She also loves to explore the world and some of her favorite adventures have been in Ireland, South Africa, Crete, Bali, and Kerala, India. Her independent nature and curious spirit encourage her to keep investigating new lands, new cuisines, and discover botanical diversity. Gala finds inspiration from the symmetry and beauty in nature, which she enthusiastically brings back to the classroom.
